I'm trying a new format that is a lot cleaner and more streamlined, and I think I can be better about regularly posting to it. (mainly because I can set up a queue of items to go up automatically when I get distracted by life outside of the interwebz) From here on out I recommend going to this location for assorted items from my adventures past, present, and future: Carstonia
I'll try to get better about keeping things current.
The guys at Sweetgrass Productions have been doing a behind the scenes series from the making of Solitaire, and the most recent episode highlights our trip to Chile last summer. This brings up lots of great memories from a great trip with a kickass crew. Enjoy
Last fall I took a short little trip down south to ride my mountainbike near Virgin, UT with the guys from the Camp4 Collective. The idea was pretty much to just have a good time and test out some ultra fancy camera toys. Later on, the Camp4 boys ended up using the footage from that weekend as the raw material for the finalists of their "So You Think Can Edit" contest to work their magic on.

Long story short, there are now seven badass edits from a super fun weekend and they all make me look way cooler than I actually am. Awesome. This is all thanks to the camera wizardry of the Camp4 guys, and the and awesome talent of the seven finalists from the contest: Kevin Matluk, Joshua Van Patter, Daniel Dixon, Nicolas Teichrob, Joe Carter, Tom Malecha, and Nate Balli. Congrats to Nate Balli on the win. You can see all of the final edits below, or check them out with a ton of other goodies on the Camp4 Blog: http://blog.camp4collective.com/

It features lots of good times and friends shredding around Alta and Brighton, and even though there isn't anywhere near that much snow now, it's still lots of fun out there and this vid got me even more stoked for when the snow finally decides to come this year.

Spring time is awesome in Utah. Down in the valley it's sunny and warm... perfect for mountianbiking, climbing, hiking, or any other summertime outdoor activity. In the mountains, however, the snowpack is as deep as ever, and winter storms continue to roll through and drops copious amounts of snow through April and well into May. Despite the continued snow up high, the Wasatch gets noticeably emptier in the spring, as many of the ski areas have closed and much of the usual crowds have mostly given up on skiing for the winter and moved on to their warmer weather work and activities.

For those who keeps skiing into spring, this is often the best time to get out and ride. It often feels like you have the mountain to yourself- no traffic to fight or powder-panicked crowds to race... but with deep, wintery snow to top it off. What could be better?
Eric Balken and I spent a couple of deep days skiing around Brighton after they closed for the year. Enjoy! (but don't get too dizzy from the POV footage)
This is a week-long photo contests that takes eight pro photographers, pairs them each with three athletes, and then unleashes them upon the four cottonwood canyon resorts outside of Salt Lake City for an all out photo frenzy. Each team gets one day at each of the ski areas, and then submits a portfolio of the best two images from each day at the end of the contest.
I was placed on a team with Lee Cohen (photographer), Pip Hunt (skier), and Tony Pavlantos (snowboarder). The night before the contest it snowed 16 inches, and then went blue for the rest of the week- perfect conditions to get some incredible photos. We took full advantage of this- maximizing our days with early mornings and long days of skiing and hiking in and around Snowbird, Solitude, Alta, and Brighton. The crew worked together really well, and we definitely came away from the week with some incredible images, but so did of the other teams. Our portfolio didn't end up placing, but we did win the bonus "Urban Meets Mountain" category, and we still have this image from a jump outside of Solitude in the running for the Facebook Favorite section of the contest:
During the whole powder frenzy I spent a lot of time out and about with my friend, including the guys from Sweetgrass. Some of our escapades can be found on their blog. (This was one of my favorite days out in wolverine cirque: http://sweetgrass-productions.com/blog/?p=1411 )
Anyway, that was then, this is now, and unfortunately the firehose of snow had to shut off and the powder feast had come to an end for a little while. Last week it was raining in Utah, so I jumped in the car with Balken and Asa for the weekend in hopes of finding better snow in the Tetons. We most certainly did, and had a blast skiing pow and exploring Targhee and Teton Pass for a couple of days. Here's a mini edit from the shots gathered on the handful of times we pulled the GoPro cameras out of our pockets during the trip. Enjoy!
It's not much, but is a good reminder of lot's of on snow fun from last winter and is maybe a sneak of what to look for more of this year. I hope it provides a little entertainment and the fact that it is mostly POV footage doesn't make it too disorienting to watch.
One night the weather in Utah decided it was time for winter, flipped the switch, and it has been puking snow almost nonstop ever since. We just barely finished up the month of November, and already have a 64" settled base and a 140" of total snowfall for the season. The snow has finally taken a break for a couple days, and I am finally catching my breath from the extended powder feeding frenzy. Here are a few photos from the Turkey Day weekend to recap the gluttonous gobbling of frozen fluffy stuff from the sky:

I finally managed to take a look at the small amount of POV footage that I collected myself on the trip and make a micro edit out of it. For some reason I only remembered to both charge and turn on my camera a couple of times during the trip... I know it's not much and it's a little late, but hopefully it is somewhat entertaining, and only mildly dizzying. Enjoy!
Thanks go out to the whole crew I went down there with and all the friends I met along the way. It was truly an incredible experience, and I hope to go back soon. A couple photos from the trip can be seen in a small gallery over on Skiing Mag
Here is a little compilation of many of the random hits, jumps, ledges, etc. that tend to distract and entertain me while I am running errands or otherwise biking around town.
The whole thing is being spearheaded by Shayne Metos, and he just had a little interview on BroBomb to introduce the project. check it
Oh, and here's his little edit that started it all... It was made on a trip that Shayne took up to Hood with the Surface/Joystick boys earlier this summer.
We'll see where this goes, and hopefully it will provide some sort of entertainment for somebody out there.

I guess I'll start it out with a photo shot by Steve Lloyd that ran as a full spread in Bike Magazine's most recent issue, the Photo Annual. It's old news to some, but I was in the southern hemisphere when the issue was released, so I just saw it for the first time last week.
